Frequently Asked Questions

This is a list of some of the questions I am frequently asked along with the answers (if known).

Why is it called the Spacy/Elite/CH250?
This has been discussed a few times, but nobody has come up with a
definitive answer. Presumably it was at the whim of the marketing
people in the respective countries… CH250 is the Honda model number
(this was the same in all countries).
What is its top speed?
Approximately 130 km/h.
What about range?
I get about 180 km on a full tank.
Where can I get an owners manual?
You may be able to order one from your local Honda dealer (although I
had no luck here in Australia). Alternatively you can download a PDF
version of the owners manual from the Owners Manual page.
Where can I get a service manual?
There don’t appear to be any after market service manuals for the
Spacy. However the Honda service manual in excellent. It may be
available from your Honda dealer, or alternatively there are a few
vendors on the Internet who sell this manuals. Two possible sources
are:
:
Plano Honda (see this page for Scooter manuals). Helm Inc (Don’t
forget that the Spacy is called the Elite in the U.S.A. - look for the
Elite 250 manual)
Where can I get spare/replacement parts?
Common spares should still be available from Honda, although they may
have to be ordered from Japan. Less common parts (body panels, etc.)
are harder to find. Usually the best place to look is a motorcycle
wrecker.
How do I replace the clock battery?
See the Owners Manual or use the following diagram.
What are known problems?
The motor in the Spacy is considered pretty much bullet-proof. I have
been told by one mechanic that the wires to the engine sometimes break
due to repeated flexing (for those of you who don’t have a Spacy, the
motor is part of the rear swing arm and moves up and down with the
rear wheel). The drive belt should be checked and replaced when
stipulated by the service schedule , as a drive belt failure can lead
to expensive damage to the motor bearings. Of course as with any
motorcycle, the oil should be changed regularly (and with the handy
oil change reminder there is no excuse to forget!)
